The University of Technology of Eindhoven (TU/e) is a research university specializing in engineering science & technology. Education, research and knowledge valorisation contribute to:

• Science for society: solving the major societal issues and boosting prosperity and welfare by focusing on the Strategic Areas of Energy, Health and Smart Mobility;
• Science for industry: the development of technological innovation in cooperation with industry
• Science for science: progress in engineering sciences through excellence in key research cores and innovation in education.

With advanced quality research, the university contributes to the progress of technical sciences and thus the development of technological innovations. TU/e focuses on areas in which they participate in the international scientific community.

TU/e has three Strategic Areas: Energy, Health en Smart Mobility. The TU/e puts emphasis on knowledge valorisation: research results are translated into successful innovations and serve as a basis for creating new products, processes and enterprises.

TU/e Innovation Lab is responsible for the valorisation of the knowledge of the university and to bring it to the market. Innovation Lab is the official partner in the R4E project. The execution of the project will be done by TU/e LightHouse and TU/e strategic area Smart Mobility each in a different role in the project.

TU/e LightHouse

TU/e LightHouse is part of the TU/e Innovation Lab. In its valorisation role, it aims to disclose the knowledge of the university in the field of intelligent lighting and smart city solutions for society. This is realised by applying the knowledge, methods and designs of the TU/e through concrete projects for external organisations.

TU/e LightHouse is very experienced in developing Visions & Roadmaps for municipalities on various aspects of smart cities, including lighting and energy related themes. The role of TU/e LightHouse is to support and guide each partner city through the Work Packages 1-4.

TU/e Strategic area Smart Mobility

The Smart mobility strategic area envisions a world without traffic jams, exhaust emissions and accidents, through smarter, safer and more energy-efficient transport. Smart mobility concerns clean, efficient and intelligent surface transport systems for people and freight in a network of transportation infrastructures characterized by continuous direct information exchange and supported by mobility and traffic modeling. To ensure continuation of individual and collective mobility in the coming decades, TU/e offers a unique single-campus combination of specific (research) capabilities, concerning automotive technology, intelligent transport systems, freight transport and logistics, and mobility and traffic. TU/e has held a great deal of expertise in the fields of Intelligent Transport Systems, Automotive Technology, Logistics and Planning Systems, and ICT/ Embedded Systems. These are the kinds of expertise needed to play an important role in helping the world transition toward smarter, more sustainable mobility. TU/e is committed to develop knowledge and innovative technologies to help achieve sustainable mobility for society. More than 200 researchers contribute every day to make mobility and transport more intelligent and productive, and to make vehicles safer, cleaner, and more efficient. TU/e is heading towards a world in which mobility issues are a thing of the past. The role of TU/e Smart Mobility is to lead Work Package 4 and to provide the network and expertise on smart mobility topics.
